Seven shops closed in Nasinu black market areas after operating hours during New Year

Seven shops in Nasinu’s black market areas were closed after operating hours to ensure residents’ safety during and after the festive season.

Nasinu Town Council CEO Felix Magnus stresses that on New Year’s Eve, a 20-man team was on the ground carrying out patrols across all areas, especially in Makoi, Tovata, and Narere.

Magnus says officers were stationed outside the shops to ensure there was no sale of alcohol after operating hours, as it is often linked to intoxication within the community.

He further emphasises that youth intoxication can lead to a higher tendency towards criminal activity.

Magnus also highlights that searches were conducted in hotspot areas, including physical checks on loitering youth.

He shares that members of the public made good use of the Council's contact numbers, with calls received to report concerns adding five vehicles were on standby to respond immediately to complaints.

Magnus expresses his gratitude to the Police Force for working tirelessly with the Council to ensure a safe Christmas and New Year for the community.
