Assistant Commissioner of Police Operations Kasiano Vusonilawe
As we celebrate the New Year, the Fiji Police Force is calling for support in reporting the illegal sale of liquor, particularly in rural areas, following concerns about drinking in villages and rural settlements, where there have been reports of bootlegging operations.
Assistant Commissioner of Police Operations Kasiano Vusonilawe says community policing officers have also conducted visitations to community leaders.
He says arrests are being made for cases of drinking in public places and drunk and disorderly behaviour, and this will continue well into the new year, with celebrations are anticipated around the country.
ACP Vusonilawe is reiterating the organisation’s call for personal responsibility in the consumption of alcohol, and to make wise decisions for the sake of their family and loved ones.
He says members of the public are encouraged to report the illegal sale of liquor directly to his phone number on 9904 905.
He is also reminding members of the public to celebrate responsibly as we herald in another new year.
ACP Vusonilawe says they have welcomed the change in public narrative in support of working together as a community to curb alcohol related crimes.
ACP Vusonilawe adds that police officers have been briefed ahead of tonight’s operations in providing a safe and conducive environment for all to welcome in the new year.
