People’s Alliance Party General Secretary Sila Balawa
The People’s Alliance Party has welcomed the decision by the Fijian Competition and Consumer Commission to pause the electricity tariff increase and to allow a 21-day public consultation process.

People’s Alliance Party General Secretary Sila Balawa says this decision reflects the importance of listening to the voices of the people, particularly on issues that directly affect household budgets, small businesses, and the overall cost of living.

He says electricity is an essential service and any adjustment to tariffs must be carefully considered, transparent, and informed by the experiences of those who will bear the cost including families, workers, entrepreneurs, and communities across Fiji.

Balawa says the party strongly encourages all Fijians including households, business owners, MSMEs, farmers, and community organisations to actively participate in the FCCC consultations starting tomorrow.

He says this is an opportunity for the public to share their concerns, ask questions, and contribute constructively to the decision-making process.

The General Secretary says meaningful public engagement ensures that regulatory outcomes are balanced, fair, and grounded in real-world impact.

He stresses that consultation strengthens confidence in institutions and leads to better, more inclusive outcomes.

He adds that the People’s Alliance Party remains committed to standing with the people and supporting processes that place consumers at the centre of national decision-making.
