Oleksandr Usyk is scheduled to defend his WBC heavyweight title in May against kickboxer Rico Verhoeven at the Pyramids of Giza in Egypt.

Usyk (24-0, 15 KOs) has not fought since a fifth-round knockout of Daniel Dubois at Wembley Stadium in London in July.

According to The Ring magazine, the May 23rd bout, dubbed “Glory in Giza,” will be the first title fight held in Egypt.

Verhoeven is 66-10 with 21 KOs as a kickboxer, but has not competed as a boxer since 2014.

Usyk says he truly respect people who reach the very top in their sport and Verhoeven is one of them.

He says he is a powerful athlete and a great champion.
