Nasinu Town Council cleans kitchen waste in Cunningham

Kitchen waste causing unpleasant odours and hygiene for residents in Cunningham have been cleared by the Nasinu Town Council, led by its chairman Felix Magnus.

                                                 

The Council says the clean-up was organised as a special request from the community after kitchen waste had been left outdoors for some time, causing strong odours and discomfort for nearby families.

The Council expresses its gratitude to the residents for their patience and cooperation, and for alerting the Council early for a quick response.

The Nasinu Town Council says kitchen waste collection is essential for protecting public health and maintaining a clean, safe environment, stressing that timely removal reduces flies, rats, and stray animals, and helps prevent foul smells around homes.

                                                   

They say it also keeps our neighbourhoods tidy by stopping waste from scattering during rain and wind, and it protects our drains and waterways by preventing leachate and food scraps from entering creeks.

They add that by separating organic material, families can compost more and send less waste to landfill, supporting better habits and a greener Nasinu.

The Council says the team is out again this morning collecting kitchen waste across the wards, and green waste collections will also continue from where crews left off last week, with teams returning to complete the remaining streets and areas.

                                                       

The Council reminds residents to bag and tie kitchen waste securely, place it in a covered bin, put bins out only on the scheduled collection day, and bring them back in after pickup.

They urge residents to avoid leaving exposed bags, which attract animals and create odours, and to consider simple home composting of fruit and vegetable scraps to reduce smells and bin volume.

Members of the public are urged to send direct messages on Facebook if they notice any missed pickups or hotspots.
