Nakasi community in shock after father and son die in house fire

A community on Matana Street in Nakasi is still reeling in shock after a father and son tragically lost their lives in a house fire on Friday night.

Neighbour Naren Naidu says the fire broke out after 9pm while occupants Sunil Kumar, his wife and one of their sons were at home.

He says their other son had gone out at the time.

Naidu says the family initially managed to exit the house when the fire started, however Kumar went back inside.

He says it seems the son followed him, and the wife also attempted to re-enter the house but was pulled outside by a tenant.

The eyewitness says authorities remained at the scene until this morning.

He adds that the property had two about other flats, with one occupied at the time of the fire.

Naidu says the wife and surviving son are currently staying with relatives in Nakasi.

Police and the National Fire Authority continue investigations.
