Lack of opportunity, not will driving poverty – Reverend Nakeke

Fiji possesses two invaluable resources: its people and its land, despite this, poverty persists, one of the greatest hurdles is not a lack of will, but a lack of opportunity.

Reverend Savenaca Nakeke highlighted this at South Pacific Development Business' Fiji Nausori relocation saying there is a vast, untapped potential for Fijian women to use their skills and their land to create high-quality goods and services.

Reverend Nakeke says we know that mothers and wives are always looking for ways to contribute to their family's well-being from within their own communities.

He says SPBD exists because these hardworking individuals often lack the financial capital needed to launch their own businesses, and SPBD bridges that gap.

SPBD Managing Director, Lorraine Seeto says this move is more than just a change of address as it represents growth, progress, and their unwavering commitment to serving their members better. 

Seeto says their new location places them right at the heart of Nausori activities of their SPBD members, close to the bustling market, the bus stand, and within easy reach of their valued partners.

She says this proximity ensures greater convenience for their members, making it easier for them to access their services while going about their daily lives.

The Director says the decision to relocate was prompted by the exciting developments taking place in Nausori. 

She says for SPBD, this move also responds to their own growing needs, members have been increasing in number, and with that comes the responsibility to provide a bigger, more welcoming space.

Seeto adds most importantly, this relocation is about their members, it is about ensuring that women entrepreneurs, small business owners, and families who rely on SPBD have a space that reflects their aspirations.
