While some people were enjoying a much deserved break from school or work, others returning from church or even getting lunch ready, there was an aerial battle for supremacy going on in the skies above Bayview Heights, amongst members of Kite Warriors Fiji.
This group has been getting together every Sunday, weather permitting, and on to their 7th year now trying to bring back and introduce to young people the dying art of kite flying.
Kite Warriors Fiji President, Charles Wakeham says they are encouraging children to get out of their rooms, get off their PlayStations and get off their phones, and come out and get some Vitamin D.
Wakeham says they battle it out in the sun from 9am till at least 6pm when they hand out the awards and they are advising parents to bring their children out.

When asked if their members are only from the Bayview Heights area, Wakeham says only three of them out of the 24 are from there, while the others are from as far as Verata, Vuci in Nausori, Vesivesi, 7 miles, Nadera and all over the Suva to Nausori corridor.
Wakeham says the idea started during COVID when everyone was stuck in their bubble, so they all started flying from their own homes and the other members saw his kite and they started flying nearby.
He says they then started having normal kite fights and started talking from there about forming a club and getting to know each other a little better.
The Kite Warriors President says they have nine categories in every battle from the championship, runner-up, third place, and even a prize for the worst kite of the day who will receive four cans of mackerel or 10 sardines.
He says the best kite wins a big hamper which has ice cream, chicken, wine and chocolates for the family.
Wakeham says they also have a separate prize for the longest battle, shortest battle and there is a tip-and-fly category as well.
