Duane “Keffe D” Davis has been sentenced to 40 years to life in prison for orchestrating the 1996 murder of rap legend Tupac Shakur.
The sentence was handed down by a Las Vegas judge, nearly 30 years after Shakur was shot while travelling in a car near the Las Vegas Strip.
Judge Carli Kierny said Davis must face justice for the killing, which robbed Shakur of his life and future.
Prosecutors argued that Davis orchestrated the shooting in retaliation for a fight between Shakur’s entourage and his nephew, Orlando Anderson, at the MGM Grand earlier that night.
Shakur, who was 25 at the time, was shot while travelling with Marion “Suge” Knight and died six days later.
Davis was not accused of pulling the trigger, but prosecutors said he helped organise the attack.
The case remained unsolved for nearly three decades, with investigators unable to recover the murder weapon and struggling to obtain information from witnesses.
However, prosecutors eventually built their case around Davis’ own statements in interviews, documentaries and podcasts, as well as a memoir he published in 2019.
Davis was also given credit for 731 days already served towards his sentence.
