Eighteen staff members from the Samabula Golden Age Home have completed a three-day Community Fire Warden Training conducted by the National Fire Authority.
During the certificate presentation, the Ministry of Women, Children and Social Protection’s Director of Social Welfare, Veremo Muria, highlighted that the training has strengthened the capacity of officers to ensure safety within the Home and to serve as first responders in their communities.
Muria says the initiative reinforces the Ministry’s commitment to the safety, protection and well-being of elderly residents, while also empowering staff with life-saving skills beyond the institution.

Participants were equipped with both theoretical knowledge and practical skills, including the Community Fire Warden Framework, fire awareness and prevention, house-to-house risk assessments, evacuation drills, first aid, and basic life-saving techniques, as well as practical emergency response exercises.

The Ministry has also acknowledged the National Fire Authority for its leadership and ongoing support in building safer and more resilient communities.
