While the effects are already being felt across Fiji, residents in the Lau Group are being urged to carefully manage fuel use and prioritise essential travel as communities respond to rising fuel prices.

Speaking to fijivillage News, Roko Tui Lau Joji Kalounivalu says efforts are being made to take a measured and practical approach to the situation.

Kalounivalu says discussions were held during the recent Bose ni Vanua, where leaders agreed on the need to limit unnecessary travel and encourage villages to reduce fuel consumption where possible.

Kalounivalu says, at this stage, there has been no official update regarding travel arrangements, but communities are being advised to proceed cautiously.

He is calling on villages to plan their daily activities carefully, prioritise essential tasks and reduce fuel use wherever possible.

Looking ahead, Kalounivalu says further discussions will take place during the upcoming Bose ni Yasana o Lau in July, where key issues affecting the province, including the rising cost of fuel, will be addressed in more detail.

He adds that a collective effort from all villages will be crucial in managing the current challenges facing the Lau Group.
