Free cardiac services for children and adults will be provided at the Sri Sathya Sai Sanjeevani Children's Hospital in Nasese, Suva, marking its transformation from a specialist children’s heart hospital into a comprehensive cardiac care facility.
Sri Sathya Sai Sanjeevani Children’s Hospital Director, Dr Krupali Tapoo, says this is a major milestone for healthcare in Fiji.
Dr Krupali says 64 cardiac interventions were successfully carried out through the hospital’s state-of-the-art cardiac catheterisation laboratory, completely free of charge.
She says 232 patients were also provided with free specialist cardiac consultations and heart screenings.
Dr Krupali says the adult cardiac interventions were carried out by a specialist team from India, led by leading cardiologist Dr Jayaranganath Mahimarangaiah.
Dr Jayaranganath said the opportunity to serve in Fiji was truly fulfilling.
He says it was a tremendous privilege for the team to contribute to the remarkable mission, adding that being able to use their skills to make a meaningful difference in the lives of so many patients was immensely fulfilling.
Dr Krupali says the commencement of adult cardiac interventions represents the fulfilment of a vision announced several months ago.
She says there was an indescribable sense of joy in seeing adult cardiac services become a reality at Sanjeevani.
