People in the Northern Division who want to become professional hairdressers will soon be able to gain a recognised qualification without having to travel to Viti Levu.
The Fiji National University will offer its Certificate in Hairdressing (Level 3) programme at the Ratu Wiliame Maivalili Katonivere Campus in Labasa from Semester 1, 2027.
The programme, which comes under FNU’s College of Humanities, Education and Law, will initially take in 15 students.
Hairdressing Instructor Jioje Aisea says the programme is a way for FNU to give back to the people of the North and provide more learning opportunities.
Aisea says students will no longer need to travel to Viti Levu to study hairdressing, as the course will soon be available in Labasa.
She says students will learn professional skills in hair cutting, colouring, styling and blow-drying, while also gaining experience from people working in the industry.
Aisea says students will also gain confidence and a nationally recognised Level 3 qualification, which could help them find work in salons, work independently, take up styling opportunities or even start their own business.
Interested applicants can find more information about the programme through the FNU website.
