Fiji must choose unity over division, dialogue over hostility – Rabuka
Fiji must choose unity over division, dialogue over hostility and service over self-interest as the nation works towards a stronger future for all Fijians.

In his Fiji Day message, Prime Minister Sitiveni Rabuka highlighted the challenges Fiji has faced throughout its history, including political upheavals, the COVID-19 pandemic, economic difficulties, natural disasters and social change.

He also stressed the importance of national unity, democratic processes, economic development and addressing the growing drug and HIV crises in the country.

Rabuka says despite these challenges, Fiji has endured and will overcome its current difficulties.

He emphasised that Fiji's diversity of cultures, faiths, languages and traditions should be seen as a strength rather than a source of division.

The Prime Minister also called on Fijians to engage respectfully in discussions about the country's future, including proposed constitutional changes and the democratic processes surrounding them.

He encouraged Fijians to respect one another, uphold democratic institutions and resolve differences peacefully through dialogue.

Rabuka further stressed that nation-building is not the responsibility of Government alone, but a shared duty involving families, communities, traditional leaders, religious organisations, businesses, workers, farmers, teachers, health workers and young people.

He highlighted the importance of building an economy that creates opportunities, improving access to education and healthcare, supporting families and ensuring development reaches villages, settlements, towns and outer islands.

Rabuka also called for greater accountability from public institutions and more opportunities for young people to build their futures in Fiji.

As the country celebrates 56 years of independence, the Prime Minister urged all Fijians to reflect on the sacrifices made by previous generations and their responsibility to build a better nation for future generations.

He concluded his message with a call for unity, faith, courage and a shared commitment to Fiji, while praying for God's guidance and blessings upon the nation and its people.
