FIFA has begun disciplinary action against Argentina following the team's behaviour during the 2026 FIFA World Cup final defeat by Spain and other incidents throughout the tournament.
The world governing body last week appointed a disciplinary and ethics prosecutor to assess events after the final whistle at New York New Jersey Stadium, where several Argentina players and backroom staff were involved in altercations with Spain's players following the 1-0 defeat.
Following the prosecutor's recommendation, FIFA will investigate Argentina players Nahuel Molina, who faces two alleged assault charges, and Leandro Paredes, who faces three alleged assault charges, under Article 14 of FIFA's Disciplinary Code.
Argentina assistant coach Roberto Ayala also faces one alleged assault charge.
Molina is also being investigated for one count of alleged unsporting behaviour under Article 14.
Argentina's Thiago Almada and Spain midfielder Gavi have also been charged with alleged unsporting behaviour.
The Argentine Football Association is also facing disciplinary action for alleged breaches, including using a sporting event for non-sporting demonstrations, team misconduct, discrimination and racist abuse, and breaches of order and security at matches.
Under FIFA's Disciplinary Code, players and officials found guilty of unsporting conduct face a minimum one-match suspension, while assault offences carry a minimum three-match ban.
