FICA targets stronger iTaukei presence in accounting profession
President of the Fiji Institute of Chartered Accountants, Sharvek Naidu

The outgoing President of the Fiji Institute of Chartered Accountants and Congress Organising Committee Chairman, Sharvek Naidu says the institute is now working with iTaukei institutions, students and business groups to help increase indigenous participation in the accounting profession and build capacity.

Speaking to fijivillage News following discussions at the FICA Congress 2026, Naidu revealed that the institute currently has about 1,000 members, with only 14 percent identifying as iTaukei.

Naidu says expanding that base is now a major focus for the institute.

He says the institute has been very vocal on the issue and is already taking steps to address it, as it strongly believes that if Fiji is to build its economy and develop as a country, everyone must be part of the process.

He adds that institutional financial reporting also plays a significant role in national development.

Naidu says the institute is working not only through schools and students, but also by engaging with business councils, including discussions with the Fiji Indigenous Business Council.

He says the institute is exploring ways to help build capacity within those organisations.

The FICA Congress 2026, held at the Crowne Plaza Fiji Nadi Bay Resort & Spa Convention Centre, brought together a diverse group of more than 500 delegates from various industries and communities, with both members and non-members contributing to discussions.
