Fijians are expected to benefit from better access to accurate employment information following the launch of the Ministry of Employment, Productivity and Workplace Relations Communication Strategy 2026–2029.

Ministry of Employment, Productivity and Workplace Relations Permanent Secretary Maritino Nemani stresses the strategy aims to ensure people receive correct information about government services and programmes while reducing misinformation and disinformation.

Nemani says communication is key in any strategic organisation, especially in the modern era where misinformation and disinformation continue to spread.

He says the strategy will help ensure the public receives accurate information about government initiatives, including the Pacific Australia Labour Mobility (PALM) scheme.

Nemani says some agents have been trying to make money from poor people wanting to register under the programme, stressing that registration through the Ministry and authorised agencies is free.

He says the strategy will also guide Ministry staff on the proper process of communicating verified information to the public.

Meanwhile, responding to questions on misinformation surrounding the PALM scheme, Nemani says the programme remains beneficial for people wanting to improve their livelihoods and is part of a government-to-government partnership between Fiji and Australia.

He says the Ministry has been working to address misinformation and provide the correct pathway for Fijians seeking overseas employment opportunities.

Nemani also highlights that the communication strategy will help ensure people in rural and maritime areas are not left behind, revealing that the ministry will soon launch a mobile application to improve public access to services and information.
