Drug incidents raise alarm in Lautoka as council steps up action
PC: Lautoka City Council

Concerns have been raised by residents in Lautoka over the increasing number of drug-related incidents in the city, with the Lautoka City Council working closely with Police to address the issue.

Lautoka City Council Acting Chairman Tautusi Rasoki says drug-related problems are contributing to unemployment, health issues, and the breakdown of family and social structures.

He adds that public parks, secluded areas, and parts of the inner central business district have been identified as the most affected locations.

In response, Rasoki stresses that the Council is working closely with Police and other relevant agencies through the District Crime Committee and Neighbourhood Watch Groups.

The Council is also engaging with religious and community groups as part of its efforts to prevent drug use at the grassroots level.

The Council confirms it is aware of complaints from the public and has measures in place to ensure the safety of families, children, and the elderly.

The Council adds that bus stations and public parks are being closely monitored, with CCTV installations and regular police patrols aimed at preventing drug activity and improving public safety across the city.
