Healthcare workers in Fiji will soon have a better way to track high-risk pregnancies and follow up with vulnerable mothers and children.
This comes as the PATISPlus patient information system is introduced to maternal and child health clinics in Fiji for the first time.
The Ministry of Health and Medical Services, in partnership with the JICA ResPACT Project, recently trained 18 nurses in Suva to use the digital system.
PATISPlus will connect patient information across different stages of care, from pregnancy and delivery through to postnatal care.
The system will help healthcare workers track high-risk pregnancies, share important patient information and follow up with vulnerable patients.
It will also support health services during natural disasters and disease outbreaks by helping clinics identify and prioritise patients when resources are limited.
Following the initial training, the programme will be expanded to pilot sites across the Northern, Western and Eastern Divisions.
The initiative is part of ongoing efforts to use digital technology to strengthen healthcare delivery and create a more connected and resilient health system for mothers and children across Fiji.
