Damaged and missing road signs increase accident risk

Damaged and missing road signs increase accident risk

By Mansi Chand
21/04/2026
The Fiji Roads Authority continues to face a growing concern over damaged and missing road signage across the network, driven by vandalism, theft and unsafe driving practices.

They say incidents ranging from graffiti to signs being knocked down or completely removed are reducing the visibility of critical road information and increasing the risk of accidents, particularly near intersections, schools and high-traffic areas.

FRA says they receive daily reports of missing or damaged signs and cases of graffiti on roadside infrastructure, highlighting the ongoing challenge of maintaining road safety standards across the country.

FRA adds that missing or damaged signage creates confusion for road users and can lead to serious safety hazards, while reckless driving continues to put vital road infrastructure at risk.

FRA is urging people to respect road signages, drive responsibly and report any damaged or missing signs by calling 5720 or emailing info@fijiroads.org.
