Fiji national men’s football team head coach Stephane Auvray has named a provisional 21-member squad for the Fiji men’s national football team’s two international friendly matches against Vanuatu national football team during the June FIFA Window in Port Vila.
Auvray says the friendlies will serve as an important opportunity to assess players he has not yet worked with since taking charge of the national side.
He says the national team is still in a building phase and the focus remains on long-term development rather than immediate results.
Auvray says the coaching staff will use the matches to identify the best combinations, formations and playing structures ahead of future major competitions, with 2029 being the long-term target.
He also highlights the importance of integrating Bula FC players into the national setup, saying their understanding of his coaching methods and professionalism will help strengthen the team culture.
Auvray says the short preparation period means the camp will focus more on building a strong foundation while giving players freedom to express themselves on the field.
The coach also reveals he hopes several young players impress during camp, including 17-year-old Maikah Dau, who he says continues to show promising potential.
The team will enter camp in Ba this Sunday before departing for Vanuatu for the two-match series.
The provisional squad includes Melvin Prakash, Ilisoni Logaivau, Asivorosi Rabo, Scott Wara, Gabiriele Matainisiga, Semi Nabenu, Lekima Gonerau, Praneel Naidu, Ivan Kumar, Tevita Warainivalu, Ryan Naresh, Maikah Dau, Josaia Sela, Setaraki Hughes, Solayman Mohammed, Roy Krishna, Rusiate Doidoi, Zachariah Harang, Ibraheem Afazal, Etonia Dogalau and Isikeli Sevanaia.
