As defending Fiji FACT champions, Extra Supermarket Labasa FC will once again look to draw inspiration from their proud history that has seen the Babasiga Lions lift the coveted trophy five times.

Labasa's name is deeply woven into the history of the Fiji FACT competition, with the northern giants establishing themselves as one of the tournament's most successful and passionate teams.

With five Fiji FACT titles and nine runner-up finishes, the Babasiga Lions have built a legacy fuelled by strong northern support, exciting football and memorable tournament moments.

The side first tasted Fiji FACT success in 1992 when they defeated Nadroga 1-0 at Subrail Park in front of a massive home crowd. The victory remains one of the proudest moments in Labasa football history and marked the last time the district won the tournament on home soil.

Labasa added another chapter to its success story in 1997 when they were declared joint winners alongside Ba after the final ended in a scoreless draw.

Two years later, the Babasiga Lions secured their third Fiji FACT title with a thrilling 2-1 victory over Lautoka in the 1999 final.

After a 16-year title drought, Labasa returned to the top in 2015, defeating Rewa 2-0 in Nadi to end their long wait and spark celebrations across the North.

The team's most recent triumph came in 2025 when they overcame Rewa in a dramatic final at the HFC Bank Stadium in Suva. The match ended in a 1-all draw after full-time before remaining scoreless in extra time, with Labasa prevailing 3-1 in the penalty shootout to claim a 4-2 overall victory.

While the Babasiga Lions have also suffered heartbreak in several Fiji FACT finals against teams including Ba, Suva, Rewa and Nadroga, their resilience and consistency have made them one of the competition's most feared teams.

With another Fiji FACT campaign on the horizon, Labasa will be hoping to add another title to its illustrious history and further cement its place among Fiji football's elite clubs.

The Babasiga Lions will begin their campaign at Subrail Park against Suva on 19th June at 7.30pm.

The team will then face Navua on 20th June at 6pm before taking on rivals Rewa at 3pm on 21st June.

Meanwhile, the pool matches will be played from 19th to 21st June before the action returns for the semi-finals on 27th June and the grand final on 28th June at Subrail Park.
