Business owners and staff along Robertson Road in Suva are calling for urgent action to fix a sewage leak outside Nina's Building that has remained unresolved for nearly four weeks despite repeated complaints.
The sewage leak is located opposite Rajendra's Supermarket and near the Immigration Department, an area used by people every day.
Speaking to fijivillage News, the owner of Nina's Building, Naushad Ali says staff have contacted the Suva City Council and other relevant authorities several times, but the problem has yet to be resolved.
Ali says the sewage overflow has created a strong foul smell, making it difficult for workers and customers, especially those at a restaurant operating in the building.
He says staff have also witnessed people slipping on the wet surface caused by the leaking sewage.
Ali claims agencies have disputed who is responsible for the issue, with one side allegedly saying the sewer line falls under another authority.
He says the affected sewer line services several nearby businesses and buildings and believes a long-term solution is needed rather than expecting one property owner to deal with the problem.
Ali is urging the relevant authorities to address the issue as soon as possible, saying it is creating health and safety concerns and affecting businesses operating in the area.
Questions have been sent to the Water Authority of Fiji and the Suva City Council.
They are yet to respond.
