The Asian Infrastructure Investment Bank (AIIB) has approved US$80 million which is about FJ$179 million in sovereign-backed financing to support Fiji's efforts to strengthen economic resilience, improve climate and disaster preparedness, and advance reforms that encourage private sector growth.

In a statement the Bank says the funding is being provided under their Energy, Food Security and Economic Resilience Facility and is co-financed with the World Bank.

They say together, the two institutions will provide US$230 million which is about FJ$516 million in fast-disbursing budget support to help implement the Government's reform programme.

The programme aims to strengthen Fiji's ability to respond to external economic shocks and climate-related disasters while improving the business environment.

It is expected by 2028 to expand disaster risk reduction coverage, improve public financial management for disaster preparedness, increase access to regulated financial services for small and medium-sized businesses, streamline regulations for low-risk tourism operators, expand digital payments, and improve nutrition and physical activity outcomes for children.

AIIB Chief Investment Officer Kim-See Lim says the financing provides timely support for Fiji's reform agenda while strengthening systems needed for long-term economic resilience.

Minister for Finance, Commerce and Business Development Esrom Immanuel welcomed the financing, saying it comes at an important time as Fiji advances key reforms to strengthen the economy and build resilience against future shocks.

He says the support complements the Government's commitment to prudent fiscal management, climate resilience, and creating a more enabling environment for businesses and investment.

The programme aligns with Fiji's National Development Plan 2025-2029 and Vision 2050 and further strengthens AIIB's partnership with Fiji.
