World Rugby chairman Sir Bill Beaumont

World Rugby chairman Sir Bill Beaumont has thrown his weight behind a new Pacific Island Super Rugby team.

Sir Bill Beaumont said a precedent for such support has already been set with the Jaguares, who were financially assisted back in 2016.

Speaking to Sky Sport, Beaumont said he believes the side could be funded by World Rugby.

World Rugby has also helped fund Fijian Drua, who has competed in the past three editions of Australia’s National Rugby Championship.
