A 34-year-old woman has passed away in a motor vehicle accident in Lautoka and a separate investigation is underway as white substances believed to be methamphetamine was found in the vehicle.
The woman was a passenger in a taxi driven by a 34-year-old man from Rifle Range in Lautoka.
The two were travelling along Kings Road at Vitogo when the driver allegedly tried to overtake another vehicle and in the process lost control causing it to veer off the road and landed in a drain.
The victim died at the scene.
The suspect was taken to the Lautoka Hospital after receiving injuries and is under police guard.
The drugs have been sent for analysis.
The road death toll stands at 38 compared to 56 for the same period last year.
