Westpac Fiji brings free financial literacy to remote communities

Westpac Fiji has now trained more than 50,000 Fijians on financial literacy, reaching rural and remote communities across Fiji.

The free financial literacy training programmes includes Financial First Steps and Financial Basics, assisting Fijians with knowledge on how to make smarter money decisions for a better future.

Julie-Ann Tuikoro an participant who joined Westpac’s Community and Engagement team this year shares that over 70 students of Ratu Saimoni Raseru Memorial School have been provided with financial training.

Tuikoro highlights that Vakabuli village, outside Lautoka rarely receives external visits, adding the students and teachers described the training as incredibly valuable particularly on topics such as saving and budgeting.

Westpac has also connected with faith-based and youth communities with over 1,680 youths participating in financial education sessions at the Saru AOG Church and the SDA Western Youth Easter Camp in Lautoka.

Meanwhile, there have been 7,785 Fijians trained since October 2024, more than half were women—4,045 in total highlighting Westpac’s strong commitment to women’s empowerment.

Westpac Fiji Chief Executive Officer, Shane Smith emphasises that these free programs help women gain the confidence and knowledge to grow small businesses and manage household finances more effectively.

He adds that with support from Miss Hibiscus 2024, Melania Tora, and growing demand across Fiji, adding Westpac now aims to expand its reach in 2026, targeting more schools, villages, and community groups with life changing financial education.
