We will develop relationships with China but policing, military and communications is what we will not allow.

This was the message from SODELPA Leader Viliame Gavoka when Fijivillage questioned him on their stand regarding the recent talk about China’s influence in the Pacific.

Gavoka says they subscribe to the One China Policy that has been there for some time but they will stay with the traditional allies.

Chinese Ambassador to Fiji Qian Bo has clarified that there is only a partnership in security development with the Fiji Police Force, adding that no security agreement was signed with Fiji.

When questioned by Fijivillage on reports of a Chinese military base being proposed to be established in the Pacific, Bo says this is not true.
