Prime Minister Commodore Voreqe Bainimarama said the government will not have any money to upgrade the water supply infrastructure if it places its focus on spending public funds to build churches and community halls in different villages.
Commodore Bainimarama has made it clear to Fijivillage that the carpenters and money are all channeled towards providing the basic needs for the people of Fiji.
The Prime Minister said the trend of the past is over.
However, he said they are now trying to ensure that every village and settlement in Fiji has water and power supply to assist them with their daily needs.
Commodore Bainimarama said this message has also been given to government officials around the country.
Government Ministries in the Western division who face vehicle shortages to visit rural areas have been told by Prime Minister Commodore Bainimarama that they will have to plan their trips in advance.
Speaking to the different ministries at the Commissioner Western's Office this morning, Bainimarama said those government departments which do not have enough vehicles will have to arrange in advance with the Police and Army to use their vehicles for their visits.
Commodore Bainimarama told the government officials that they will not purchase any new vehicles but for them to have a planning system in place and seek the assistance from the Police and Army.
Bainimarama is on his way to Ba where he will meet with the Advisory Council and Cane Farmers this afternoon.
He is accompanied by the government officials from the NLTB, Lands Ministry, FSC, FEA, Water and Roads departments who are the key stakeholders in the meeting which he will be held in Ba.
