We did not neglect him - Marama Vada

The Head of the One World Church in Cunningham known as Marama Vada, has denied allegations that they neglected the 17 year old boy who died in their care over the weekend.

She said the youth was brought from Raiwaqa to their church five weeks ago, and was already sickly as he had engaged in activities such as glue sniffing and was also taking drugs. She added the youth came from one of the evicted families from Raiwaqa flats, and was brought to them by the boy's father who asked the church to help him spiritually through prayers.

When asked why they never took the youth to hospital when his condition deteriorated, she said that they believed that divine intervention would be the best cure.

Police are investigating the death of the 17 year old boy who was an epileptic patient who died at the One World Church in Cunningham. Police Spokesperson, Ema Mua said they will now interview church members in relation to his death.

Mua confirmed that a complaint was lodged at the Valelevu Police station, that the boy was not taken to hospital when his condition worsened at the Church.

Mua said it’s too early to pre-empt the cause of his death.

According to Police, the boy is believed to have been sick and looked after by church members. A post mortem examination is expected to be conducted.
