People living in low lying and flood prone areas in the Eastern and North eastern parts of Viti levu are advised to remain vigilant as a flash flood warning remains in place and there is a possibility of flooding overnight.
The Nadi Weather Office Director Rajendra Prasad said while the rain has eased for the moment, people should not get complacent as heavy rain is expected in some areas overnight and tomorrow morning.
Acting Director DISMAC Pajilia Dobui said Fiji is experiencing Spring tides which increase the risks of flash floods.
Dobui said people living in flood prone areas must assess the situation carefully before sending their children to school tomorrow morning.
And while ran has eased for the moment, water level is still rising in Waila, Nausori and has entered about four homes in the area.
A resident told Fijivillage that people are stilling moving to higher ground and some residents living along the river bank are preparing for nightfall to ensure they can make their way to safety if the need arises.
Works Ministry Spokesperson, Sainiana Waqainabete confirms a major landslide has occurred at Savu Highway in Sawani and the road has been closed to all traffic.
Waqainabete said while flood waters are slowly receding in the Tailevu area, several roads remain closed to traffic for now.
People in Nakaikogo,Nausori, have also been affected by flood waters from this morning.
Resident, Ist Deo confirms the Nakaikogo bridge is under three feet of flood water and people from Lokia and Nakaikogo will not be able use the road today.
