Water expected to be restored to parts of Suva and Lami by Sunday

Water supply in the greater Suva and Lami area is expected to be restored by Sunday morning.

This is the assurance from the Water Authority of Fiji as their engineers have been working tirelessly around the clock at the Savura hills where two main water trunk lines were washed away over the weekend.

More than 112,000 people in the greater Suva and Lami areas have been facing water cuts and the Authority is also saying that water disruption in Suva has increased.

According to the Water Authority of Fiji, people living in Namadi Heights and Cunningham are now without water however water will be catered in these areas.

During a media visit to the Savura hills in Colo-i-Suva yesterday afternoon, it was observed that the Water Authority of Fiji officials are very close to fixing one of the water trunk lines.

Word from the ground is that they are working on the trunk line that holds a much bigger water volume and it will be able to supply water to majority of the residents once it is up and running.

Work on this trunk line is expected to finish by this weekend after which work is expected to start on the second trunk line.

Meanwhile, some frustrated residents in Tamavua and Samabula have also raised serious concerns that water trucks have not come to their area since Sunday.

Residents from Princes Road, Lovoni Road, Bureta Street and other surrounding areas say some water trucks pass many houses, stop for a few minutes and then drive away while people are still waiting with their buckets on the roadside.

They say that they have called the Water Authority many times and they keep assuring residents that the trucks are coming.

They are calling on the Water Authority to ensure that the truck drivers and the cartage team go to all the affected areas and ensure that everyone standing with empty buckets is given water.

Questions sent to Water Authority of Fiji remain unanswered.
