The clean up at Nabukalou Creek this morning.

Serious concerns have been raised after items such as rusted metal, school bags, wood, cans, and plastic bags were found during the clean up at Nabukalou Creek this morning.

More than 30 people gathered in Suva City to take part in the clean up.

Suva City Council Chairman Isikeli Tikoduadua says the rubbish that is dumped in other rivers end up in this creek during flooding.

The Permanent Secretary for Environment, Joshua Wycliffe who was part of the clean up says this creek is in the heart of Suva and activities such as this will raise awareness on why people need to keep the environment clean.

Wycliffe says this exercise will give them an indication on the types are rubbish that are being dumped in our oceans from various areas and what can be done to control this.

One of the volunteers of United Samabula North Group, Chelsea Farrell says she hopes to make a difference in what people think about pollution.
