Vatunisolo and Naiseruvati to be flag bearers for Fiji at Commonwealth Games opening ceremony

Team Fiji Para athlete Naibili Vatunisolo and Lawn Bowler Semesa Naiseruvati have been given the honours to be Team Fiji's flag bearers at the 2022 Commonwealth Games Opening Ceremony in Birmingham, England on Friday.

Naibili was the flag bearer at the 2022 Pacific Mini Games in Saipan, while Semesa will be flying Fiji's flag for the first time for Team Fiji.

Naibili said it is a special feeling to be selected for this role and it makes her want to do better and give her best.

A total of 72 nations will be participating at the Games.

As per tradition, the host of the last Games, Australia, will enter first, followed by the rest of the Oceania countries.

Following Oceania, all countries will enter in alphabetical order from their respective regions this being Africa, Americas, Asia, Caribbean and Europe.

The host nation England will march in last.

The opening ceremony will start at 6am Friday.

Looking at this weekend’s fixtures for Team Fiji, the Men’s and Women’s 7s team will start their competition from Friday.

The Fijiana 7s team will face Scotland in their first match at 8.22pm this Friday, they will meet South Africa in their second match at 4.30am Saturday before they face Australia at 8.22pm Saturday.

The semifinals will kick off at 6.42am Sunday while the women’s gold final will start at 8.04am Monday.

Meanwhile, the Fiji Men's 7s first match is against Zambia at 12.02am Saturday, then they will meet Canada at 8.32am Saturday and play Wales in their final pool match at 12.02am Sunday.
