Schools that have been affected by strong winds and heavy rain should only open after they are cleaned up and necessary checks have been conducted to ensure that the school premises is safe.
Interim Education Minister, Filipe Bole confirmed to Village News last night that head teachers and principals should use their own discretion after checking the schools today.
Bole said last night that firstly the schools need to have power and water supply, and then the head teachers and principals have to check the road networks, fallen trees and power lines before making the decision on the opening of the schools.
Civil servants will be advised this hour on whether the government departments in the cyclone and flood affected areas will open today.
Public Service Commission Permanent Secretary Taina Tagicakibau is currently on her way to DISMAC for a briefing before she makes the official announcement.
