Use of non-plastic materials creates less harm to the environment-Priyeta

A final year environmental science student of the University of the South Pacific is using environmental knowledge to help her mother in providing environmentally sustainable product packages.

Shakshi Priyeta has been practising the use of glass bottles to pack chutney and pickles with home-made herbal oil.

She says they use their Indian traditional knowledge to make Indian preservative food products that can last long.

The name of her mother’s business is Shami and Sheru’s Essentials.

She is also reminding students to help their parents during the school holidays.

Managing Director and Beauty Therapist and Consultant Shami Roshni Raj says she started her home-based business at the beginning of this year through guidance from the American Embassy which encouraged women to participate in some courses that were run by them on how to start a business.

She also sells flowers and she plans to open a shop by next year. She adds her daughter is the one who helped her with the labelling of the products.
