Turaga secures USA scholarship after taking part in the Oceania Championships Games

Former Jasper Williams High School sprinter Melania Turaga who took part in the Oceania Championships in Suva has secured a scholarship to study and train in the United States.

Turaga expressed heartfelt gratitude to her parents, coach, and mentor Makelesi Bulikiobo who is also a former sprint queen in the 400 meters for team Fiji during her time.

Turaga, who is from Naburewai in Ra took part in the 400 metres event for women and in the 4x100 metres relay during the Oceania Championships.

She says she was informed about the scholarship while preparing to run in the 4x100 metres event on Friday and she believes this is God's plan for her.

Turaga thanked her supportive friends who have been instrumental in her journey and appreciated the encouragement and belief they had in her potential, have paved the way for this incredible opportunity.

Turaga says she wants to follow in the steps of her coach and mentor Makelesi Bulikiobo and hopefully come back from the States and apply what she has learned to the children of Fiji.
