President and Tui Cakau Ratu Naiqama Lalabalavu has encouraged traditional leaders to engage with their people and ensure that families are well-informed about the social ills affecting the country. While speaking during the “Vakasenuqanuqa” ceremony held at Somosomo Village in Taveuni in honour of the President, Ratu Naiqama says the collective efforts of the Vanua to uphold the values and principles define their identity and way of life.

The Tui Cakau also addressed the ongoing efforts in the fight against drug abuse and the increase in HIV/AIDS cases across the country.

He also expressed his heartfelt gratitude to the people of Cakaudrove for their warm and respectful reception.

He noted that such ceremonies not only serve as a key cultural practice but also foster a strong sense of community and pride.

The President highlighted the importance of maintaining these traditions, as they play a vital role in preserving Fiji’s rich cultural heritage for future generations.

Hundreds of people from different walks of life gathered at Somosomo Village in Taveuni to be part of the traditional “Vakasenuqanuqa” ceremony.

The “Vakasenuqanuqa” is a traditional homecoming celebration held for a respected chief and their delegation, typically after a significant milestone or achievement that brings honour to the Vanua.

Prime Minister Sitiveni Rabuka, People's Republic of China Ambassador to Fiji Zhou Jian, and cabinet ministers were also in attendance.
