A Tropical Cyclone Alert is now in force for Lau, Lomaiviti and Kadavu.
A strong wind warning is now in force for the Lau group, Lomaiviti Group, Kadavu and nearby smaller islands.
A tropical depression was located near 19 decimal 6 South 177 decimal 7 West or about 190 kilometers South East of Lakeba or about 440 kilometers east south east of Suva at 5pm today.
The tropical depression is moving South West at about 25 kilometers per hour.
It is intensifying and may become a tropical cyclone in the next 24 to 48 hours.
On this track the depression may cause gale force winds over Lau, Lomaiviti and Kadavu in the next 24 to 48 hours.
Nadi Weather Office Director, Alipate Waqaicelua said these areas are expected to experience gale force winds from tomorrow.
For the rest of Fiji, heavy rain is expected associated with thunderstorms.
Flooding of low lying areas is likely.
Waqaicelua said people in the main islands need to be mindful of this as the depression or the cyclone is expected to bring heavy rain.
