Heavy rain and strong winds are expected to develop from today as an active trough of low pressure associated with two disturbances is anticipated to gradually drift south towards Fiji.
Nadi Weather Office Director, Ravin Kumar says associated cloud and rain are expected to affect the northern parts of the group this morning and gradually spread to other parts of Fiji later today.
A Tropical Disturbance lies to the far west of Fiji and continues to move further away from the group while the second Tropical Disturbance lies to the northwest of Fiji and is expected to move south‑eastwards towards Fiji.
Neither of the disturbances has the potential to develop into a significant depression or tropical cyclone over Fiji Waters. However, as the trough associated with the second Tropical Disturbance comes closer to the group, it is expected to bring heavy rain and strong winds over the northern parts of the country.
A heavy rain warning remains in force for Vanua Levu, Taveuni and nearby smaller islands, Kadavu, Yasawa Group and the Lau Group.
A strong wind warning remains in force for land areas of Western Viti Levu Vanua Levu, Taveuni ,nearby smaller islands Yasawa Group, Lomaiviti and Northern Lau Group.
A heavy rain alert remains in force for the rest of Fiji.
People are advised to remain alert as localised heavy rain over a short period of time can cause flash flooding in low lying areas and areas prone to flooding.
