The Tropical Disturbance located near Solomon Islands is now upgraded to a Tropical Depression.

It is intensifying and has a high probability of becoming a tropical cyclone in the next 12 to 24 hours.

Nadi Weather Office Principal Scientific Officer, Misaele Funaki said on its projected path, the weather system is expected to lie about 1,200 kilometres North West of Nadi at 8am tomorrow, and 1,100 kilometres North West of Nadi at 8am Wednesday.

Funaki said the centre of the Tropical Depression was located near 8.2 degrees South and 169.1 degrees East or about 1,300 kilometres North West of Nadi at 8am today.

It is currently slow moving, but expected to move southwards in the next 24 hours.

On the projected path, it is expected to pass to the southwest of Fiji.

The Weather Office said at this stage, the system is not expected to directly affect Fiji.

However, from Wednesday and into Friday, the associated active rain bands will bring heavy rain and strong winds.

Funaki said people should be prepared as the current path is based on projections.

He said there is also a threat of flash flooding later this week.
