Tropical Cyclone Winston is now heading towards Tonga.

However the Nadi Weather Office predicts that the cyclone is expected to curve near Tonga and head back into the Fiji waters later this week.

Nadi Weather Office Director Ravind Kumar says they will continue to assess the system as there is a high possibility that Cyclone Winston will come back into the Fiji waters.

Winston is located about 210 kilometres East North East of Ono-i-Lau at 9am today.

The cyclone is moving North East at about 26 kilometres per hour. It is moving further away from Fiji.

A gale warning is still in force for Ono-i-Lau, Vatoa, Fulaga, Ogea, Kabara, Namuka, Komo, Moce and Oneata.

However winds are expected to ease today and the warning is expected to be cancelled.
