Appreciation for local music has grown tremendously over the years and being part of it is truly a humbling experience.

These are the words of legendary local musician and guitarist Tom Mawi who will be part of this year’s Vonu Uprising Music Festival at Uprising Resort this Saturday.

The 74-year-old says even though it is his 3rd time performing at the event he still plays with the same passion for music as he did when he first started with a ukulele.

The Vonu Uprising Music Festival this year will have a number of bands returning with the likes of local entertainers The RelatiV, RAKO, including newcomers Jim Crow Blues Band from Adelaide, Australia along with local artists Knox, Blue Monk feat. Tom Mawi and Alyson Hancock as well as Four Quarters.

Uprising has also confirmed that there are 2 free buses leaving Suva at 11.15am and 1.15pm on Saturday and both will return at 12.30am Sunday.

The event will run from 12 midday and finish at approximately 2am Sunday.
