Today marks the first arrivals of Indians under indentured system
People in the country today remember their forefathers who came to Fiji 131 years ago under the indentured system.

On 14 May 1879, the "Leonidas", the ship with the first indentured labourers from India, arrived in Fiji.

Fiji Museum's Prakashni Sharma stressed that most of the people in Fiji do not realise the difficulties their forefathers went through.

She has called on parents to bring their children along to the Fiji Museum today so that they could see the items on display that were used by the indentured labourers.
