Minister for Defence and Veterans Affairs Pio Tikoduadua

Following the President’s clear directives on strengthening Fiji's security and governance, Minister for Defence and Veterans Affairs Pio Tikoduadua reveals that his Ministry has diligently acted on these directives.

Tikoduadua says the Ministry has strengthened border security and crime prevention.

He says they have also modernized Fiji's border control measures, increased intelligence sharing with international partners, and launched joint operations to combat transactional crime and the illicit drug trade.

Tikoduadua acknowledged former Acting Commissioner of Police Juki Fong Chew for his courage in answering the call of the Government and the people of Fiji when the nation needed him most.

Tikoduadua further says they have also enhanced disaster preparedness responses.

He says the Republic of Fiji Military Forces have been pivotal in strengthening national disaster response mechanisms, ensuring that they are always prepared to protect the people in times of natural calamities.

Tikoduadua says they are in the final stages of signing a Status of Forces Agreement with the United States of America and also have developed a new and promising security relationship with the Republic of India.

He says these relationships have enhanced Fiji’s military capabilities, ensured access to world-class training, and strengthened Fiji’s abilities to address modern security challenges.
