The salaries were the same when I was in cabinet - Chaudhry

Fiji Labour Party Leader Mahendra Chaudhry said when he was in the Bainimarama led government, the Prime Minister and the Ministers were being paid the same salary as the cabinet ministers in 2006.

However Chaudhry said he will soon write to the Registrar of Political Parties, Mohammed Saneem to investigate the salaries declared by the Prime Minister and the Attorney General as he believes it is more than the amounts stated.

Chaudhry has been saying this in the FLP campaign meetings and he says that he wants the government to reveal the salaries of the Prime Minister and the Ministers from 2010 to date.

The FijiFirst Party’s declaration was published last Friday and it shows that the Prime Minister who is the leader of the party, Voreqe Bainimarama receives a total income of $278,750.

According to his declaration of assets and liabilities, Bainimarama gets $230,000 in salary, $20,000 entertainment allowance and other allowances total $28,750.

The declaration by Aiyaz Sayed-Khaiyum shows that the Attorney General’s salary is $185,000.

Registrar of Political Parties, Mohammed Saneem will in due course verify the published particulars of FijiFirst for compliance with the Political Parties Decree.

Any member of the public who believes that the particulars are incorrect is invited to contact the Registrar on phone 3316225.
