The television war is set to begin.
Mai Television Limited has today announced that it will start providing free-to-air television services from March 31st this year.
In a press conference this morning, Mai TV Director Richard Broadbridge confirmed that their major project for 2008 will be to air all Rugby League World Cup games live for free which will be played in Australia in October this year.
Broadbridge reveals that this has come possible after Vodafone Fiji provided them with a huge amount of sponsorship which will see people enjoying live games on the free-to-air channel.
Meanwhile Broadbridge has revealed that they have also secured some reputable programmes.
Broadbridge also revealed that they will be starting operations with providing coverage to people from Galoa to Nausori and later in 2009 moving to the western parts of the country.
Mai TV will provide 30 percent local content increasing to 50 percent in 2015. According to Broadbridge, the local contents will include news and current affairs, programm for children, long distance learning, sports and entertainment.
The total sponsorship package for the Rugby League World Cup has not be revealed.
