Teachers turned up in numbers at the Fiji Teachers Union headquarters this afternoon to vote in the FTU National Elections.

48-year-old Arvin Narayan of Sigatoka says he expects teachers to have more say after the announcement of new executives of FTU.

Another teacher, Kashmita Sharma says she hopes for positive changes such as better medical facilities for teachers.

As at 5pm today, the Fijian Elections Office has recorded a preliminary turnout of 914 voters at all the 22 polling stations nationwide for the FTU General Election.

Supervisor of Elections, Mohammed Saneem says while they have surpassed the total turnout for this Union in the last election, there are 4,917 members of this union and it is only proper that all of them are able to vote.

The elections will continue tomorrow.
