Taxi Association seriously concerned after driver's death in Savusavu

Following the discovery of the body of a 27 year old taxi driver at Waisali Hill in Savusavu with visible injuries, the Fiji Taxi Association is calling for justice and urging taxi operators to install CCTV cameras and GPS tracking in their vehicles to make tracing easier in case of an incident.

FTA General Secretary, Ashwin Lal says there is a need to have more CCTV cameras in every town, city, district and even the rural areas.

Lal says there is a need to also have checkpoints and patrolling in the rural areas to ensure the safety of the drivers.

Lal is urging authorities to find those responsible for the death of the taxi driver.

Police are yet to classify the death as they wait for post mortem exam results.

An eyewitness has told fijivillage News that he saw a trail of blood leading to the body on the hill.

He also says the body had visible wounds.

Police say the victim had failed to return home last night after driving his taxi.

They say the victim’s taxi was found abandoned at Waisali Hill near the water source, and a search conducted around the area led to the discovery of the victim's body further downhill.
