The iTaukei Land Trust Board has successfully reduced its national rental arrears from $31.6 million as of 1st January, 2025 to $22 million by 30th June, 2025.
TLTB says this marks a significant reduction of $9.6 million, representing a 30.45 percent decrease in just six months.
TLTB Chief Executive Officer, Solomone Nata says this achievement reflects the organisation’s firm commitment to fulfilling its legal obligation of collecting rent and ensuring that landowners receive what is rightfully theirs from the use of their native land.
Nata says this progress is the result of an aggressive arrears recovery strategy, which includes obtaining court orders for the disconnection of utilities and the repossession of leased land in Fiji.
He says that approximately 534 rent arrears cases are currently before the courts, with an additional 765 cases being prepared for legal action. The total value of arrears involved in these cases amounts to $4.7 million.
He further explains that at the beginning of the year, there were 9,651 agricultural lease arrears cases, which have now decreased to 6,104—a reduction of 3,547 cases.
This represents a 22.2 percent drop, indicating that payments have been made on 3,547 agricultural leases, paving the way for their renewal.
Nata further says that they continue to urge tenants with outstanding arrears to settle their dues without further delay.
The CEO says that failure to pay will result in legal enforcement, which may include court-ordered disconnection of utilities and repossession of leased land.
TLTB reiterates its willingness to assist tenants through structured payment plans and encourages affected individuals or businesses to engage directly with the board.
